Google Maps ranks by SEO and ad spend. TripAdvisor is gamed by paid reviews. We only feature places that have been hand-picked by locals or verified by our community of independent travelers. Zero affiliate deals, zero sponsored placements.
We're live in 13 cities: Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Istanbul, Kyoto, London, Tokyo, Mumbai, Osaka, Paris, Phuket, and Singapore. London and Paris are our newest additions. Each city has a growing collection of hand-curated spots, with more on the way.
One search uses one credit. A search is a single question you ask the Discovery Assistant, for example "quiet cafe with fast wifi where locals work". That costs one credit no matter how many results come back. Scrolling those results, opening a place, and saving it to a list are all free. We don't store past searches, so asking the same question again also uses a credit.
The Free Taster comes with 20 credits, the Trip Pass with 100, and the Explorer Pass is unlimited.
Absolutely. Both the Explorer Pass and Trip Pass can be cancelled anytime through the App Store or Google Play. No questions asked, no hoops to jump through. Your saved lists stay with you even after cancellation.
Every spot in our database is either submitted by a verified local contributor or discovered and validated by our community of travelers. We actively reject any place that pays for placement. We also encourage users to submit their own discoveries so the database keeps growing organically.
Detour Club is currently app-only (iOS and Android). The app is built around on-the-go, location-aware discovery, which is best experienced on your phone. A web version is on our roadmap.
Continuously. Our network of local contributors and community travelers submit and verify new spots on an ongoing basis. Explorer Pass members also receive a notification when a meaningful batch of new places drops for a city they've explored.
Yes, and we encourage it. Inside the app you can submit any place you find worthy. Our editorial team reviews every submission before it goes live. If your spot makes the cut, you'll get credit as the discoverer on the listing.
Both. Solo travelers love the AI search for its ability to match very specific moods ("solo-friendly bar where I can meet locals"). Groups benefit from the shared list feature: one person curates, everyone sees the plan. The AI also takes group size and dietary mix into account when you tell it.
You can flag any listing directly in the app with a single tap. Our team reviews flags within 48 hours and either updates or removes the place. We'd rather have a smaller, accurate list than a large, stale one.
Nothing disappears. You keep full access to your saved lists, every place you've already found, and browsing by category or neighbourhood, none of which costs a credit. You just can't ask the Discovery Assistant a new question until you upgrade to a Trip Pass or an Explorer Pass.
No. Most people plan from home: pick a city, ask the Assistant what you're after, and build your lists before you fly. Once you're there, the app sorts by what's near you and what's open now.
Yes. Every city can be browsed by category, neighbourhood, price range, and tags like rain-friendly or work-friendly. The AI is there for when you know the feeling you want but not the words to search for it. It's never the only way in.
Location is used to sort places by distance and is never sold or shared with advertisers. We don't run ads, and no business can pay us to appear in your results, so there's nothing for us to gain by profiling you. You can use the whole app with location access switched off.
Ask in any major language and the Assistant will understand you. Listings themselves are written in English, with local-script names and addresses included so you can show them to a driver or match the sign above the door.
